A ketgenic diet is different

Do you know what does keto or a ketogenic diet mean? It is a type of, high-fat and low carbohydrate diet that is meant for attaining ketosis. So, what is ketosis? It can be defined as a metabolic state wherein your body derives energy from ketone bodies. This metabolic condition is different from glycolysis in which your body gets its energy supplies by burning glucose. As far as ketone bodies are concerned, they are kind of molecules that are soluble in water. These bodies are produced by the fatty acids in your liver during fasting or low food consumption. A ketogenic diet is considered to be a beneficial regimen that helps your body survives during starvation. This diet has shown considerable degrees of improvement in conditions, such as cancer, epilepsy and autism.

There are a number of low-carb diets to choose from. All such diets follow the same pattern, i.e. high fat, adequate amount of protein and of course low carbohydrates. However, a keto diet regimen is a little different from regular low-carb diets when it comes to the quantity of protein and carbohydrates to be taken on a daily basis. However, make sure to ask your doctor whether or not this diet is suitable for you.
About this diet
Tracking the amount of starch contain in food items as well as limiting its intake in between 20 grams to 50 grams per day. The amount of protein to be eaten is generally based on the height, sex and amount of exercises done by the person on the diet. Moreover, the calories will be balanced by fat intake. The proportion of fat, carb and protein maintained in this diet ensure consistency in maintaining ketosis. So, you derive around 70%, 20% and 10% energy from fat, protein and carbohydrates, respectively. Also, a ketogenic diet reduces the cravings to eat. Therefore, there is no need of calories counting.
Is there any kind of side effect?
Getting started with a keto diet plan and at the same time maintaining it on a daily basis is not easy for the beginners. You might face the following issues – frequent urination, headaches, cravings for sweet, constipation, etc. That’s because your body will take its time to learn that it has to derive energy from fat and not glucose. However, within few weeks when your body will get used to this change, you will feel comfortable with the diet plan.
